Our swim school has a purposely built heated Learn to Swim Pool which offers a wonderful outlook of our natural surroundings. Our Swim School Instructors have over 25 years of combined experience and are able to garner a connection with children of all ages; instilling them with confidence, structure, and enjoyment in the water. We offer a wide range of swim classes containing swimming levels for all ages including bubs, school-aged children, and adults.
Our Philosophy
The Village Swim School is here to guide and nurture your child through their swimming journey. Starting with the joy of being a water baby and transitioning to becoming a safe and confident swimmer who has mastered all the strokes . We achieve this with highly experienced swim instructors in our purpose-built heated swim pool in the natural surroundings of Pottsville Beach.
We take great joy in helping our students learn to love the water and become safe and skilful swimmers for life.
The foundations of our approach…
Our Swim School is a fun, challenging and safe environment.
Swimming lessons are conducted in a controlled environment, where safety, trust & positive relationships can flourish. For our Dads/Mum n Bub classes, a loving parent becomes the teacher and the teacher the facilitator. Comfort really is the key – a warm and comfortable pool with warm and caring instructors.
We build confidence to take on new challenges.
Simple steps and solid building blocks lead to success. Discipline, mutual trust, respect, support and pride are attributes that can be applied to all aspects of life. We believe that for kids to grow into confident swimmers they need consistent swim lessons to build a solid foundation for water safety.
A technical based program.
Learning to swim takes a number of years to perfect. Our highly experienced instructors develop and review our program across the stages of development. Whilst each child is unique and will progress and learn in their own way, progression leads to a more skilful swimmer proud to achieve the next level.
The earlier kids start, the better.
Swim skills are best mastered regularly, year-round and start with water confidence from 6 months old. All children should have the opportunity to learn to swim and we accept First Lap and Active Kids vouchers to assist parents keeping their child confident, fit, maintain muscle memory and motor-control development progressing all year.
Water Safety Week.
Safer Smarter Stronger Swimmers. In addition to our usual program, the last week of every term we dedicate to water safety and life preservation. We offer specific safety skills, self preservation problem solving, endurance and team work. Our goal is to educate the entire family about water safety and the importance of being safe in, on and around the water.
We offer a wide range of swimming levels for all ages including bubs, school-aged children, and adults. You are never too young or old to learn to swim!
Our Swim Instructors
We have a highly experienced swim school team that are warm, caring and committed to educating children and adults how to swim and water safety. Our swim instructors are passionate about training children of all ages to swim. They are very knowledgeable with over 25 years of combined experienced as swimming instructors and water safety educators, who work with every level of ability and special needs students here at The Village Swim School.
Sue Radnedge
I have a passion for swimming, my aim is to making the water a comfortable experience for all clients, and increasing water safety awareness.
With a great deal of patience, and a deep understanding of individual client needs, I have created individualised swimming lessons for all ages.
My youngest student was 4 months to 95 years old…true story! From Bubs classes to Competitive Stroke Correction and Special Needs, NDIS client requirements. I am always open to talk to clients about their swimming needs.
Learning to swim doesn’t just happen sometimes it requires a nurturing approach, allow the client to build the skills they need at one level to confidently springboard to the next.
What got me teaching…necessity!
I had one of my children nearly drown 3 steps from me…it taught me many things, and the most dangerous of all is, drowning is silent.
Corky (36 this year) survived but I couldn’t find anyone with the patience to teach her she was a nightmare, so strong willed she fought the best teachers. I came from a competitive swimming background, as does my husband, so to have a child, kick and scream washing her hair, let alone getting her into water, was not going to do! We are water people..Surfing, Sailing and Swimming. I had to get her over the fear, it took me every Saturday morning for a years before she started to even look like she had any swimming ability. P.S She completed in many finals, once her natural abilities kicked in…its in the genes, but it took years.
So I teach with the view, think outside the box to see what works, as every child learns differently. You need to adapt your teaching methods, if a child doesn’t learn the way I teach, then I teach the way they learn.
Learning the basic fundamentals with correct techniques, we can expand on that, to Competitive levels. Considering this area, Water Safety in all conditions and teaching a appreciation of all water ways…Beaches, Rivers and Floods as we need our children safe.

The Village Gym Swim School has given my daughter the confidence she has needed in and around water.
The resident swim teachers have also improved all her strokes helping her to do well at her swim school carnival.
The fun, caring, hard working staff at the Village Gym Swim School make learning to swim exciting – I highly recommend sending your children there.

““Ellen recently worked with me to get my little one in the pool after multiple weeks of screaming and carrying on. She showed the necessary engagement and understanding to help him take the plunge into classes without Mum or Dad. Having tried multiple swimming schools we’re delighted to have found a fit for our boys and their needs.
Ellen runs a tight ship and is truly an asset to the Village Gym. Finally, swimming classes are something my kids really look forward to.”
